Guangzhou, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The 137th China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) concluded its offline exhibition in Guangzhou on May 5. Zhou Shanqing, director of the Press Center of the Canton Fair and deputy director of the China Foreign Trade Center, said that the number of overseas buyers attending this session of the Canton Fair has reached a new high.

As of May 4th (the same below), a total of 288,938 overseas buyers from 219 countries and regions attended the event, an increase of 17.3% compared with the 135th Canton Fair (the same below). Emerging markets remain the largest source of visitors for the Canton Fair. There were 187,450 buyers from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, an increase of 17.4%, accounting for 64.9%. There were 51,862 European and American purchasers, an increase of 3.4%. A total of 140 business and industrial institutions participated in the event in groups, an increase of 17.6%. The number of leading multinational purchasing enterprises reached 376, setting a new historical record.

The on-site intended export transactions have continued to grow. The on-site intended export transaction volume reached 25.44 billion US dollars, an increase of 3%. The transaction volume of the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative accounted for over 60%, serving as a significant engine driving transaction growth. The transaction volume in traditional markets remained stable.

Zhou Shanqing said that the participating enterprises generally reflected that products with good quality and performance, strong innovative features and high brand awareness were more favored. Overseas purchasers placed orders actively, further enhancing the confidence of enterprises in expanding diversified markets.

New drivers of foreign trade are accelerating their release. At this session of the Canton Fair, a large number of new products, new technologies, new designs, new materials and new processes have emerged, and green, low-carbon and intelligent products have attracted widespread attention. The enterprise showcased over 4.55 million products on site, including 1.02 million new products, 880,000 green and low-carbon products, and 320,000 smart products.

The enterprises at the import exhibition reaped rich rewards. A total of 736 enterprises from 50 countries and regions participated in this session of the Canton Fair, among which 67% were from countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. A large number of internationally renowned enterprises showcased their intelligent manufacturing and high-quality home consumer products, attracting the attention of domestic and foreign purchasers. The enterprises from the exhibition groups of Russia, Thailand, Turkey and other countries expressed that they had gained a lot and had reached cooperation intentions with many domestic purchasers. Their products are expected to enter the Chinese market quickly.

This session of the Canton Fair has received high attention from domestic and foreign media, with a total of 228 media outlets and 1,831 journalists in attendance.

After the conclusion of this session of the Canton Fair, the online platform of the Canton Fair continued to operate on a regular basis throughout the year. The 138th Canton Fair will be held in three phases in Guangzhou from October 15th to November 4th.
